The Foosball Mafias Lifts FM Cup

The Foosball Mafias emerged champions of Foosball Mania 2008 winning the closely-contested final against V Rock! 5-1, 5-4. Rajesh Kunder scored eight goals to seal his team’s victory and to end as this season’s top scorer.

The final was quite simply one of the well-played and entertaining matches that this season saw. Prior to the match there were no clear favorites as both the teams walked in from the semis with the help of Goal Differences. TFMs came into the firing mode faster than the V Rocks. They came close to blank V Rocks in the first game but a beautiful pull shot from Shilpa’s striker denied TFMs that. With out accepting any further damage TFMs bagged the game 5-1 (Sapna 2, Kunder 3). The star of the first game was Sapna who guarded TFMs home from the frequently patrolling V Rock shots.

The second match saw V Rocks desperately trying a come back. Sheethal fired some long-range shots from the V Rock goal front, she succeeded four times to give the game a nail-biting end. If it was Sapna in the first game then it was Kunder who stole the show this time. Kunder scored all the five goals to stamp the game and Match for TFMs (5-4).

The semis of Foosball Mania 2008 ended up in a tie with all three teams winning a point each with goal difference being the deciding factor to set up the finale.

Clash of the Titans

The Semifinals start today, here in RMZ. Three teams will play three (roundrobin) matches for the pride and the prestigious playoff berth. Chimps, Foosball Mafias and V Rock! are the three teams who managed to make it to the Bermuda triangle.

Captain’s log book or how-they-came-here

Chmips embarked the semis with style, trashing this season’s darlings Gumpal Govindas (5-1, 5-4). Foosball Mafias had an easy outing against Strikers (5-1, 5-4). Strikers however showed some resistance in the second game to keep the match alive on the table. But they failed to find the one goal that could have converted the match to a three setter. Psychedelic Twist gave V Rock! a hard time in their quarterfinal clash. V Rock won the three setter 5-3, 1-5, 2-5 to book their berth in Semis.

Chimps ousts GGs to enter Semi Final

Chimps defeated Gumpal Govindas 5-1, 5-4 to be the first team to enter the semifinals of Foosball Mania 2008 here in RMZ. The credit of this upset win goes to Madhu who guarded Chimps goal front from the foos-shark Vipin. Nidhi scored six and Madhu scored four for Chimps. Vipin hit four and Prashanth scored one goal for the GGs.

Quarterfinals!!!!!!!!

Fifteen is now six - quarterfinal-day is here in RMZ! It is the year of the underdogs in Foosball Mania. Do not confuse yourself with the Chinese calendar when I say this. Look at the quarterfinal line up and you will know why.
Lineup:

Gumpal Govindas v/s Chimps 10:45 AM

Strikers v/s The Foosball Mafias 12:15 PM

Psychedelic Twist v/s V Rock! 4:00 PM

It has been a season of upsets, the most loved and cheered teams failed to turn that energy into match winners and those who were written off as no-hopers took the limelight away.
The fantastic four in this pack of six are Psychedelic Twist, V Rock!, Strikers, Chimps who came out of nowhere to dominate their group to qualify for the quarters. The remaining two are the big-names in the pack - Gumpal Govindas and The Foosball Mafias. Chimps and Strikers will have to give their best, or may be more than their best, to pull GGs and TFMs out of their way. The match between PT and VR will be a clash of equals. If PT is coming back to the table with the confidence they gained from their last match with Crazy Fooso’s, then it could be tough for V Rocks!. In any way, it is going to be a feast for us.

"Adieu Slingshot ..."

Strikers pulled out a showstopper to upset FQ 5-4, 5-1. The Do or Die match was an emotional one for both FQ and their Defender Farooq ‘Slingshot’ Ahmed who was playing his last match and day in Yahoo. The weight was too much for the FQ buddies and it could be seen well in their game. Ashwin failed to convert the chances into goals and Farooq kept his trademark slingshots to himself.

Strikers came into the game with a surprise pack and unfolded it on the game table. Result, a well deserved win scripted by practice and plan. Suma kept Ashwin on hold who is known for his tricky shots when Hema sledged FQ goalpost. Hema scored seven and Suma scored three goals for Strikers.

Points Table

Mafias Triumphant But Nervous As Usual

Déjà vu all over again for the Mafias as the Wrist Twisters were galloping towards a nail biting finish in the first set. But the Mafias riposted their pride by brushing past their opponents to clinch the set 5-4 and eventually winning the match 5-4, 5-0

New kids in the block

Teams, watch out for Sheethal and Shilpa from the V Rock! in all-guns-ready-to-fire mode. In the second match of Group 2, BoozeFallers raised an early threat by taking the lead in the opening game 3-2 but eventually losing the match to Rockers 5-3, 5-2. V Rock! now leads in Group2 with four points.

Mafias win the Cliff-hanger

There is no more God Fathers and Dons in the latest version of Foosball Mania. It is an open table or any ones ball game. The Foosball Mafias’ ace striker Rajesh struck late to help his team graph an 11-8 win over Thadi Thandavas, the best cliff-hanger the season produced so far. Rajesh scored Nine goals and Sapna fired two when Srikant was the lone scorer (8 goals) for the TTs.

Match Result - 5-1, 1-5, 2-5

It’s loose game, win hearts for Strikers

Strikers’, Hema and Suma, brave show was not enough to save their match against the Knight Riders, Madhu and Venu, (10-12). Strikers found chinks in the Knight Riders’ armour and delivered the early blow by taking the opener 5-2. The Knight Riders however bounced back and won rest of the two games (2-5, 3-5) to add a point for their tally.

Pre Match Comments of Thadi Thandavas

Hello to all our fans and all our detractors:

We embark upon our quest to crush all who oppose us in an hour’s time. We will wreak havoc upon all those who stand in our way and we will mock all those who may happen to beat us.

If we lose, it’s because our lives have been threatened by the Mob which would like us to throw particular matches or our lives and the lives of our families are at stake. (That is if we lose.) So, we’d be doing it for purely humanitarian purposes. Completely selfless.

Come and support us or consider yourself marked for mockery and ridicule.

Govindas bag an easy win

The Gumpal Govindas had an easy outing against the Bangalore Daredevils (10-2). Vipin guarded his Foos-Shark tag flushing the ball seven times into Daredevil goalpost. It was a whitewash if you minus the two joes from Prashanth’s goalie.

The curtain raiser, Psychedelic Twist’s win over Golden Eagles (10-0), failed to deliver the spark to the crackers. But the scene soon caught fire when V Rock! trounced the much preferred FQ for 10-4. The message was loud and clear, season of upsets is ahead. Yahoos! mind your coffee and TT breaks, you could be entering a shooting range if you land in there during a match in progress!

Foosball Rules

To Start a Match
A coin flip shall precede the start of the match. The team that wins the flip has the choice of table side or first serve. The team that loses the flip has the remaining option and must also pay for the first game, with that expense alternating thereafter.
Once a team has chosen either the table side or the first serve, they may not change their decision.
In the event of the loser's bracket winner beating the winner's bracket team in the first match, the second match will be started in the same manner as a regular match with the coin flip, etc.
The match officially starts once the ball has been put into play. (BUT violations such as cursing, etc. may be called by the official assigned to judge the match as soon as he and both teams are present at the table.)

The Serve
A serve through the serving hole is used to put the ball into play at the start of the match, after a point is scored, or after a ball leaves the table. The server may attempt to influence the roll of the ball, but may not allow any part of either hand to be in the play area once the ball hits the playfield.

The play area shall be defined as the area above the playing surface to the height of the side boards of the cabinet.
Prior to serving the ball, the server may place either hand in the play area in order to position the ball. However, no part of either hand may be in the play area at the moment the ball is released into play.
If the ball hits the playfield while any part of the server's hand is in the playing area, the serve shall be considered illegal. This includes any finger used to push the ball through the serving hole.
The ball may not be struck by either team following a serve until it has touched the playfield, at which time the ball is considered to be "in play" and the time limits start.
Spinning the ball shall be allowed in order to influence the serve, however, no point shall be scored by the serving team unless the ball is struck by one of the serving team's figures.
The server must not serve the ball until he has the assurance that the opposing team is ready for play to begin. The server can signify that play is about to begin by tapping the ball on the side of the table.
If the server has tapped the ball, and the opposing team is holding their handles, the opposing team shall be deemed to be ready for play (unless they have specially stated before the ball hits the playing surface that they are not ready yet).
On the first violation of any part of this rule, the ball shall be re-served by the original server. Subsequent violations, however, shall result in the ball being put into play by a server of the opposing team.
If the ball is incorrectly served, but the server has not violated any part of these rules, the ball is considered in play. In particular, the player may not reach into the play area to re-serve the ball (see 16).

Subsequent Serves
Following the first serve of a match, subsequent serves shall be made by the team last scored upon. First serves in subsequent games of a multi-game match shall be made by the team which lost the preceding game.

If the ball is served by the wrong team, and the violation is discovered before the ball is scored, play shall be stopped and the ball shall be re-served by the proper team. Once the ball is scored, no protests shall be allowed, and play shall continue as if no infraction had been committed.
If a team receives the serve because the opposing team is being penalized for a rules infraction, and if, after the ball is served, it goes dead or leaves the table and must be re-served, it shall be re- served by the team who originally served it prior to the infraction.
Ball in Play
Once a ball is put into play by the server (see 2), it shall remain in play until the ball is hit off the table, a dead ball is declared, time out is called, or a point is scored.

Ball Off the Table
If the ball should leave the playing area and strike the scoring marker, ash trays, top of the side rails, cabinet ends, or any object that is not a part of the table, the ball shall be declared off the table. The ball should be put back into play with a serve by the team which originally served that ball.
